A Two-Bed Comfort Care Home in Hilton, NY
About
Our Story
Founded in 1984, Mt. Carmel House is a comfort care home that has been dedicated to providing compassionate, free-of-charge care to the terminally ill for over 40 years. Inspired by the selfless service of Saint Mother Teresa, our mission is to offer dignity, peace, and spiritual solace to those in the final stages of life. Located in Hilton, New York, our home has become a place where residents and family are surrounded by love and care in a serene and supportive environment.
Our Founders
Mt. Carmel House was established by Raoul and Rose Grossi, devout members of the Lay Carmelites, who were deeply moved by the plight of those dying alone in hospitals. Encouraged by Dr. Fernando Ona, a Catholic deacon and physician, the Grossis opened their first comfort care home on Lorimer Street in Rochester, New York, on July 16, 1984. The home quickly became known for its warm, family-like atmosphere and the dedicated care provided by volunteers.
Our Mission
At the heart of Mt. Carmel House is a commitment to serving those in need, without regard to race, religion, or financial status. Our home operates on the principle that every person deserves to spend their final days in a place of comfort, surrounded by people who care. We believe in providing a peaceful environment where residents can experience dignity and love.
Our Journey
Since its founding, Mt. Carmel House has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. The original home on Lorimer Street served the community for several years before relocating to a larger facility on Planet Street in 1988. In 2014, the home moved to its current location on Frisbee Hill Road in Hilton, New York, where it continues to provide exceptional care.
A Legacy of Compassion
The legacy of Raoul and Rose Grossi lives on through the continued operation of Mt. Carmel House and the expansion of our mission globally. Inspired by the Grossis’ vision and Mother Teresa’s example, our home has supported the establishment of comfort care homes in the Philippines, India, and Indonesia, extending our reach to those whom Mother Teresa called “the poorest of the poor.”
